MTS vs TS

TS is a standard media container format developed by MPEG in 1995 for transmission and storage of audio, video and PSIP data. TS file is used for MPEG-TV to record video on a DVD, compress video data(use MPEG video compression).

MTS is a AVCHD container format developed by Sony and Panasonic for HD camcorder users. Now .MTS file format is widely used by more HD camcorder like Sony, JVC, Canon, etc for recording 1080i or 720p HD videos.

Summary:
1. Both TS and MTS are container format, but different file extension.
2. TS is often used in broadcast systems such as DVB, ATSC and IPTV, while MTS commonly used for high definition video on AVCHD camcorder.
