MXF (Material Exchange Format) is a multimedia container format created by a set of SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) standards. MXF files are designed for professional digital video and audio media by pro camcorder like Sony's XDCAM and Panasonic's DVCPRO P2, etc.

MXF video format is a "container" or "wrapper" format which supports a number of different streams of coded "essence", encoded with any of a variety of codecs, together with a metadata wrapper which describes the material contained within the MXF file. If you want to edit recording Sony's XDCAM MXF, Panasonic's P2 MXF video files, you can choose Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid, etc for editing.
