JPG vs BMP

JPG is commonly used method of lossy compression for digital photography (image). The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. .jpg or .jpeg is the most common image format by digital camera and on website.

BMP is a raster graphics image file format used to store bitmap digital images, independently of the display device, especially on Microsoft Windows and OS/2 operating systems. BMP file format is capable of storing 2D digital images of arbitrary width, height, and resolution.

Summary:
1. BMP has the biggest file size, Jpeg is smaller in size.
2. Quality wise, bmp is better than jpeg.
3. JPG is appropriate for photos, not very good for graphic arts where you have high contrasts.
