H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC (Advanced Video Coding) is a standard to compress video which is developed by ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) together with ISO/IEC in 2003. The H.264 video format is one of the most popular video formats for recording, compression, and distribution of HD video. 

The H.264 file format is a codec standards for Blu-ray Discs, so all Blu-ray Disc players must be able to decode H.264. H.264 is also the most popular format for Apple devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV, etc. For some streaming video sources like Vimeo, YouTube, iTunes Store, H.264 is the most popular video format. And it is also can be used by web software like Adobe Flash Player, Microsoft Silverlight and various HDTV broadcasts, cable and satellite.
