What is CPI Files?

The .CPI file format is a camcorder clip information file. These files contain no actual video information; instead they are created with an .MTS file which holds the actual video data.

Note: Clip information file created by various high definition (HD) digital video camcorders; contains metadata describing an AVCHD video stream, such as the frame rate, frames per second, and aspect ratio; used to describe an .MTS video stream.

Note: The CPI file type is commonly found in the AVCHD/BDMV/CLIPINF directory of HD digital video recording media. It is primarily associated with 'AVCHD'. AVCHD is a high-definition digital video format that supports 1080i and 720p with a reasonably small file size.

AVCHD .mts files are based on the MPEG4 CODEC which can be burned to Blu-ray discs and played in compatible devices, such as Blu-ray disc players and the Sony PlayStation3. Various video programs can edit or convert this file format which is generally used by Sony and some Panasonic video cameras.
