AVI is a video format developed by Microsoft in November 1992 as a part of windows technology. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a file container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback.

DV is a format for storing digital video. It was launched in 1995 with joint efforts of leading producers of video camera recorders.
