3GP vs 3G2
3GP file format is defined by the Third Generation Paternership Projects for transfer audio and video files between 3G cell phones and over the Internet. File extension .3GP is a simplified standard of the MP4 standard that was designed to play, record video on 2G, 3G, 4G cell phones.
3G2 is a multimedia container video and audio format developed by 3GPP2 for the intent of transmitting multimedia files over the Internet. 3G2 file format is basically an updated version of the old .3GP format, which was used by cell phones for saving video files.
- 1: 3GP is defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), 3GPP is defined by the 3GPP2.
- 2: 3GP is used for 3G UMTS (GSM) multimedia services and 3G2 is usually for 3G CDMA2000 multimedia services.
- 3: 3GP and 3G2 can store the same video streams, but for audio streams, 3GP can stores AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AAC-LC, etc, but 3G2 can store EVRC, EVRC-B, EVRC-WB, etc.
